Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company

 geoffrey-demeritt.jpg

I was recently hired by the Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company to photograph all of the fire department buildings, from the first building used, to the present. The images will be displayed on a kiosk, in front of the current fire house. This project commemorates C.V.F.C’s 100 years of service. In October, the kiosk will be unveiled along with a celebration. Its was a fun project for me and I enjoyed working with Loblolly Designs. The greatest thrill for me is having photo credit on the kiosk, which will  be around for 100 years. Another step in creating a legacy.

A Gathering of Friends

The Girls

I had the pleasure of photographing a gathering of friends. The Occasions was a birthday party for Kelly McMullen. Friends and artists came together to laugh, make music, and dance.

Flashes of Hope

I assisted Kevin Webber, a photographer in Baltimore, today. The shoot was for “Flashes of Hope”.

“Flashes of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.”

Please take moment to visit their web site. The images are beautiful, and the mission is great.

Best in Show

geoffreydemeritt-6.jpg

I recently won “best in show” at the, 2008, Chestertown Arts League Photography Show.
There were 136 other artists, who showed their work. Each photographer submitted two images, making the total number of photos 272.

The judge of the show was, Robert Creamer, a professional fine art photographer, from Baltimore, Maryland. His comment on my image was: “ The photographer has the ability to concentrate on one tiny aspect of our world. His work exhibits nice qualities of tonal arrangement, reflection, abstraction, as well as a sense of peace and calm.”

The award came as a great surprise to me. I didn’t care that much about winning an award, I just wanted a place to hang my work. If nothing else, it tells me to keep doing what I love most.

Stool Project

This project was a collaboration between a couple of people. The story begins with a stool from a bar in Chestertown, MD, called “Andy’s.” The stool was taken (unknown to Andy’s) on a freight plane with a disposable camera, where the pilot of the plane took the stool and photographed it everywhere he landed. Australia, Japan, and Hawaii are just some of the locations. Fast forward a couple of years. The stool was given to me before I drove from Maryland to Montana. At this years’ Andy’s Christmas party, their 20th anniversary, the stool was returned along with all the pictures of the its travels.

My First Show

My first show was held at the Green Heron Flooring, show room. I showed a collection of photos entitled, “What Once Was.” There was a very positive reaction to my Images. I sold six out of eight photos from the show, and had requests for reprints. We had lots of beer and wine, which was all gone before the end of the night. I felt a sincere “welcome home”, with friends and family showing support. Thank you to all that were involved.
